While I was cleaning the kitchen on Christmas Eve, I listened to TL Putnam’s podcast, Outside the Walls. He had an episode about the DDF’s new declaration about blessing couples in irregular unions, Fiducia Supplicans.
TL is one of the most no-ideological Catholic commentators I know of, so I knew whoever he would have on to speak about this declaration would do a good job. And I wasn’t disappointed.
TL interviewed Katie McGrady, a speaker, author, podcaster, and host of The Katie McGrady Show on The Catholic Channel on Sirius XM 129.
I thought the interview was really good. I have seen many poor responses to this declaration, from all “sides.” There have been accusations of heresy and dissent all around, directed at the document itself or at those who are critical of it. Threatening people with not-belonging if they don’t agree I believe goes against the heart of what the Holy Spirit through this declaration is trying to teach us. Katie and TL didn’t do that. They discussed the declaration with sensitivity and grace, with the fundamental belief that this is a magisterial teaching document that has something to teach us.
I would encourage you to take a listen. You can find the interview here or on your favorite podcast app:
